The opportunity to make
hardwood cutting boards arose from my husbands millshop business, Jackson Brothers
Hardwoods, Inc. The mill sells domestic and imported exotic hardwoods, provides
millwork services and manufactures flooring and trim. Manufacturing flooring
and trim produces large amounts of lumber that is too narrow to process but very beautiful
and a shame to throw away or use for firewood. I recognized the opportunity to make
hardwood cutting boards as an environmentally efficient use of the waste.
So 17 years ago, I began
selling my wares at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market. I sell every Saturday there. The nice
thing about the market is that it is a tourist attraction for visitors to Ann Arbor,
Michigan. I sell my boards to people from all over the world. They are always excited to
be able to purchase a one of a kind cutting board made from Michigan
Hardwoods. So now I am proud to be able to offer my beautiful hand-crafted products on the
Internet to all of you who have not had the chance to meet me at the Farmers Market -yet!
